Well, what a start for Aston Villa and Martin O'Neil
On Saturday they dew 1-1 away with Arsenal at their
new stadium, and in all honesty were defensively
excellent, keeping Thierry Henry at bay all match.
Their goal came from Villa veteran Olaf Mellberg.
Reading had an equally impressive start in their
first outing in the Premiership, coming from two
goals down to beat Middlesbrough 3-2, although we
must note that Boro had a perfectly good equaliser
by Mark Viduka ruled out for offside late on. dont
be suprised to see a did in for either johnson or
specially lescott who looks a class act.yobo id love
to see sold as hes offered potential for way too
long and has been shown up for what he is by
lescott.after yobo,lescott,cahill.arteta,johnson the
only other possibility is the potential of
vaughan.if we sell it is the end.that will be that
and our new stadium in two years or whatever could
or most likely have its debut in the championship as
how long can u keep selling quality plaers and
replacing with average
there is two things with bills statement last night
that makes me believe it's not factual. 1, if we own
his rights , he is in effect on loan , so why are we
talking to his agent ? just tell him . 2, 700,000k
for a player and he hasn't got a passport , we have
either been ripped off or more likely we have never
paid 700,000 k and we are in negoatiions now . bill
paying 14k a week for a player that isn't going to
be ready for 12 months , thats a player s wage ,
with a limited budget , i for one feel this isn't
true , if it is it's madness , given such a small
squad.
Betting wise, it will be interesting to see the odds
for Aston Villa home games, as I think in the future they are
going to be much shorter than the 10/11 offered by Betfred here. Their midfield of
Gareth Barry, Steven Davis and Gavin McCann were
tireless workers and spoilt and broke up alot of
Arsenal attacks. Bear in mind the talent in the
Arsenal tam, it was very impressive. If Villa can
get the ball to the impressive 19-year-old Gabriel
Agbonlahor up front with Angel, they should
create alot of chances. presumably they are for
Arteta and Cahill as there is no-one else who anyone
would really bid for. Usual c rap I see from Bill
last night - he didnt want to be the man who sold
Rooney but of course he did. He doesnt want to move
us to Kirkby but of course he will. Our club is
gradually losing its soul both on and off the pitch
- I am inclined to agree with you mm that it is the
board more than the manager although I wonder why
Moyes puts up with it and stays so quiet - you would
think he would be more protective of his own
position and you would think he would want to move
to a bigger club
On a different note as I live within walking
distance of Macclesfields ground I thought I would
go to the youth cup game tomorrow night - am I
likely to see a midfielder good enough to go
straight into the first team.
For Reading, Dave Kitson and Steve
Sidwell also shone, and this should be a cracking
game between two teams of rising confidence.
However, at odds of 10/11 for a home win, these
should be snapped up immediately. Martin
O'Neil's first home game will surely be played in
front of a packed Villa Park. In reality, Reading
should have drawn their first game were it not for
the ref disallowing a genuine Boro goal, and less
not forget that they conceded two at the back.I rate the Villa
defence much more highly than the Boro defence, who
still haven't found a replacement for the now
manager Gareth Southgate. I cant see Reading scoring
so easily against Mellberg at the back and with
McCann in midfield, 10/11 for a home win does look like a
nice wager!
