" Third place Sevilla, a full nine points
adrift of the chasing Merengues, travel up north from
the sunny city to tussle with Real Sociedad. Joaquin
Caparros’ side bounced back superbly from the
4-0 home drubbing to Barca by notching an impressive
win over the seemingly unstoppable Villarreal last
weekend. Sociedad should also be confident after grabbing
a massive win at Albacete, moving them closer to safety.
The pressure has been eased on coach Jose Maria Amorrortu
after Sociedad moved five points clear of the relegation
zone thanks to their victory over Racing Santander.
But Russia international Karpin, 36, is well aware
that there is a long way to go until their safety
is assured.
``Sevilla play the right way, they are a group of
players who only think about winning and that is shown
by their strength in defence,'' said Karpin who, for
virtually the first time in his career, has been employed
in `the hole' behind the strikers in the last couple
of months.
``They also have a lot of quality in attack and for
that reason they are at the top end of the table.
We need to see how things go for the next four or
five games before we can really give an opinion on
this new strategy but so far it is working well,''
he said.
``I don't think that we have been in a critical position
in the league even though we picked up just one point
in January. We have never dropped into the relegation
zone but now having gained four points from two weeks
we have to realise that this is just a boost for us,
nothing more, and we need to maintain this run against
Sevilla.Promising defender Ivan Zubiaurre will miss
the Sevilla game with a leg strain.
Sevilla continued their fine form in the league with
victory over Villarreal but suffered defeat at the
hands of Panathinaikos in the first-leg of their UEFA
Cup tie.
But free-scroing midfielder Julio Baptista, nicknamed
The Beast, claims that it will not affect their confidence.
``We now need to concentrate on Saturday's game as
it will be very important in order for us to stay
at the top while Real also need the points,'' he maintained.
We are not concerned about what happened in midweek
and we have had a few days' break to get relaxed.''
Aitor Ocio is suspended for the match and Javi Navarro
is still recovering from a broken nose and is a doubt.
Its Sevilla all the way for me today, they are on
a great run and playing some impressive football,
I think 2.62 is way too big to pass up. GET ON!
