This could be a tough baptism of fire for new boys
Sheffield Utd as they take on a Liverpool side in
full confidence and optimism after a superb 2-1 win
over Champions Chelsea at the Community Shield last
Sunday. The Blades will be bouncing for this game.
Neil Warnock has strengthened his side with the
signings of Chinese international defender Lie Tie
from Everton and captured David Sommeil from Man
City and ex Leeds hitman Rob Hulse for £2.2m.
Although compared to Liverpool's squad this does not
look like threatening considering the team Liverpool
can put out on paper. If we analyse the
Liverpool's performance in the Community Shield last
week, Craig Bellamy impressed up
front after coming on in the second half in Cardiff
and put in a superb cross for Peter Crouch to bury
the header. Equally impressive was a Hyppia less
Liverpool defence, being led by Jamie Carragher in
the centre. Liverpool also have made some astute
signings in midfield, with Jermaine Pennant signing
from Birmingham and Chilean winger Mark Gonzalez on
the flank.
Both were impressive and will be the supply line for
giant striker Peter Crouch this season.
So what hope for Sheffield? Their pre season
doesn't really fill us with optimism. They could
only draw with League One neighbours Rotherham 1-1,
and also drew with League two side Notts County 0-0.
On their recent Dutch tour they couldn't win a game,
again drawing with Den Haag 2-2 and Sparta Rotterdam
1-1. With 22 clean sheets in the Premiership last
season, Liverpool are a tough team to break down, so
in all honesty I cant see the Yorkshire team scoring
many. One things for sure, Utd manager Neil Warnock
will have his team well up for this game, and it
will certainly be an intimidating atmosphere, with
tackles flying in from all directions on the
Liverpool players.
A year or two ago, I would have predicted a draw
in this game, but now Liverpool look a much better
team, with players much more adapted to the game in
England. With a mix of British players and overseas I
think the mix is right. The 4/7 on a Liverpool away
win is a little skinny though for my liking on the opening
day. Instead the anytime goalscorer market looks
more productive. This will be striker Craig
Bellamy's full Liverpool debut, and he has scored
goals at every club he has been. I'm sure he will
want to get off the mark very early in his career
and he will not be affected by an intimidating
atmosphere. I'm getting on
Craig Bellamy to
score anytime @ 11/10 with Bet365 [£100 Free Bet].
I'm expecting Liverpool to keep a clean sheet in
this game and they should win this 1-0 or 2-0.
Bellamy should be one of those on the scoresheet. |
