It must be said that Harry Redknapp has worked
wonders since returning to Portsmouth. After going
on a great unbeaten run which saw them top the
Premiership, they have lost their last two games,
and his team now find themselves fourth in the
league. This is a contrast to the form of West Ham,
who have had a disastrous start the their season.
The Hammers have only won once all season, and have
lost their last three games. It seems that their
dramatic turn in form coincided with the signing of
Argentianian pair Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano,
who it must be said have struggled so far. They are
still without striker Dean Ashton.
Hammers boss Alan Pardew is coming under
increasing pressure, and it looks like some off
field problems are affecting his team. It is obvious
that the Argentinian pair has caused some unrest
within the team, and this is being translated to the
pitch. This is a difficult game to call, with both
teams in a downward spiral of form. From a fixed
odds perspective, I do fancy Portsmouth slightly as
you can get odds of around evens. Alot depends on
the team West Ham puts out, and wether they include
Tevez and Mascherano. A safer bet for me is to look at the goals scored
in the matches these teams have played. Four of
Portsmouth's six games in the Premiership have ended
under 2.5, while West Ham have been involved in five
games out of six which have ended under 2.5. I'm
sure this will be a tight, scrappy affair and
Hammers boss Pardew will definitely settle for a
point to get his season back on track. In fact, both
managers will probably be happy if this game ended
honours even.
