Things are looking much better for Portsmouth this
year. After Harry Redknapp steered them away from
relegation, they have spent some decent money and
made some good signings. They have already splashed
the cash on Sol Campbell from Arsenal, and this
could be the best signing in the league this season.
Also, David James has arrived from Man City and
these two players bring a wealth of experience to
Fratton Park. Also lets not forget ex Chelsea
defender Glenn Johnson. Blackburn have been rocked
this season by the departure of star striker Craig
Bellamy to Liverpool, although they have signed
Benni McCarthy from Porto and Jason Roberts from
Wigan to compensate. Pre season they have performed
well, with both new strikers finding the net in a
3-2 win over Bundesliga side Alemania Aachen.
This is again a toughie to call as last year
Blackburn were impressive, finishing sixth, however
Portsmouth have strengthened their squad and signed
some decent experienced players. I think the best
bet for this game is to go with a lack of goals. If
we compare both sides, Blackburn have Steven Reid
and Robbie Savage in midfield who will battle for
everything. Together with Pompey tightening up at
the back with their new signings, and the loss of
Bellamy up front for Blackburn, it may take a few
games for all the new players to gell properly.
Im expecting a tough opening game at Fratten Park
and I'm going with the Under 2.5 goals @ 1.72 with
