It seems that Liverpool have played too many
games already this season, as they finally qualified
for the Champions League, after a shaky 1-1 draw
with Haifa to take them through to the final stages.
In their first game, they drew 1-1 away at Sheffield
Utd. They do have injury concerns however - Jamie
Carragher, John Arne Riise and
Mohamed Sissoko are doubtful. West Ham have had a
bright start to their Premiership campaign, winning
3-1 at home to Charlton and then drawing 1-1 away at
Fulham. From the M57 as I drive to me old
mans I can see Goodison on me left and the new
ground would be visible on the right, 4 miles apart.
The fact that technically it's outside the city
boundary ? is that really an issue. Does any one
born and bred in Kirkby not consider themselves a
scoucer ?
Having said that, I'm not sure I fancy the location,
as I mentioned earlier, somewhere round Sandhills /
the docks area strikes me there must be a location,
the site in Kirkby has no great merit other than, no
doubt, the Tesco cash.
One other concern I have, football has been riding
on a surge of popularity for the last few years,
close to 40,000 every game currently was most
definitely some thing we only dreamed of in the mid
70's. I remember crowds of 18,000 for league games,
25-30,000 the average, 55,000 for the derby ! Are
those days likely to return ? Do we need more than a
40,000 stadium. This is probably the
best time to play Liverpool, as they have a few
injury doubts and may be fatigued by their trips
midweek in the Champions League. However, I still
think they'll win. Liverpool had a superb home
record in the Premiership, and this being their
opening game I'm sure they can muster the energy to
put away a confident West Ham side. i'm for
the move , goodison has served well but we all know
we can't stay .
we are in a position were tesco need everton to
smooth knowsley council , knowsley council want
everton in their borough , plus objective one monies
we'll be getting a ground worth 100million plus for
choice. too good an business venture to ignore . the
ground will be half a mile outside the borough ,
surely this shouldn't disrupt a wonderful
opportunity'
I no longer live there, I agree the finances
probably dictate that it has to be Kirkby but with
respect (I know you live there) I'd have liked to
see a lovely stadium gracing the citys waterfront
somewhere between the Pier Head and Seaforth, the
area has such character in my opinion.
Pride Park I drive past regularly and it is built in
the middle of nowhere, bland and uninteresting, I
just hope we don't end up with a flat pack stadium.
The prospect of Everton leaving Liverpool to play in
some bland retail park surrounded by a Tesco
megastore is even for me, pretty horrible.
Moving is one thing, but moving to a an out of town
site? I hope they reconsider. There's already too
many of these bland sites in football. As someone
mentioned, there is a lot of potential along the
docks and even in the sandhills area which is served
by a merseyrail station. Be a real shame if both
Anfield and Goodison are gone in 10 years. And it'd
be even worse if Everton have a new home before us!
i agree vs -kings dock was a wonderful opportunity
missed . however , to say edge of kirkby is bland
site in the middle of nowhere is notright imo, rail
links ,connecting motorways it has a lot going for
it . tesco will be built were the college is and the
ground will be built were kirkby stadium stands now
. a railway station just alongside the motorway will
make the stadium easily accessible. more turnover ,
more hospitality , surely a good move. I do however
,share your concerns regarding our ability to fill
the place , i'm old enough to remember the nine
thousand at coventry and been able to runa nd jump
when we got the last minute winner , shameful i know The Hammers have
had a good start, however they have only played
Charlton and Fulham, and Liverpool are a few levels
above those teams. With Craig Bellamy in the side
Liverpool have genuine pace in the side, and
together with Pennant and Gonzalez, they have the
added option of crosses into the box for Crouch.
Liverpool can mix it up, although I'm sure West Ham
can cause them problems. Bobby Zamora has three
goals in his opening two games and he will be
confident coming into this game. Liverpool should be
able to outscore the London side this time round. Bet365 are
offering odds of 1/2 for a Liverpool home win, and
this is just about large enough for me to take. Take
the £100 free bet that Bet365 offer and stick it on
Liverpool @ 1/2 for a £150 profit! |
