remains confident he can further bolster Everton's squad
before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
The Goodison manager has made three big-name purchases
already this summer following the capture of £8.6million
club record signing Andrew Johnson, £4million central
defender Joleon Lescott and on-loan American goalkeeper Tim
Howard. That outlay represents Moyes's transfer purse for the
close season, with no income as yet brought in by the sale
of players. However, the Everton manager believes there is
still scope for more loan deals and possible free transfers
ahead of the deadline on August 31. The new Everton
smartcard will be launched this week, with the first batch
landing on the doorsteps of supporters from Monday.
The card will be used for stadium access in place of a
traditional Season Ticket. But it also offers so much more
for supporters as Club membership card and loyalty
scheme. The smartcard solution is provided by BT in
conjunction with Scotcomms Technology Group and APT Skidata.
From Monday the Everton Seasoncards will begin to arrive
with season ticket holders and lounge members. The card
replaces season ticket books and can be used for stadium
access.
But it offers so much more as well. It is a multifunctional
system that can store a wealth of information, giving
holders the opportunity to use it as a Season Ticket card
for stadium access, a membership ID card and a loyalty card.
Everton's Season Ticket holders, shareholders, lounge
members and members of the club's Evertonia membership
scheme will begin to receive the new card from Monday -
enabling them to benefit from its host of uses.Season Ticket
Holders and lounge members will use it for stadium access,
doing away with the need for awkward Season Ticket books. But
fans can also accumulate points on the card at selected
retailers in much the same way you would use a standard
loyalty card, with the points redeemable against future
Season Ticket purchases or merchandise from the Everton
Megastore as part of the Teamcard system. Everton legends
Graeme Sharp and Kevin Sheedy have both thrown their support
behind the smartcard initiative.
Sharp said: "The smartcard scheme is another example of the
Club's determination to maintain progress throughout the
club and offer value to supporters."
"I'm still hopeful that we can bring someone in before the
deadline but there is nothing imminent," commented Moyes.
"We are still looking and will continue to do so."
The Goodison manager ran the rule over Borussia Dortmund
forward Delron Buckley during the past fortnight and could
yet take on other trailists.
Thomas Gravesen's agent yesterday admitted the player would
welcome a return to England after being informed Real Madrid
are willing to sell, but a move back to Everton seems highly
unlikely.
Everton arrived back home early this morning from Dallas
after completing their 10-day tour of the United States,
which began in Columbus last Monday.
