Sheffield Utd
Last year: 8th
Ground: Bramall Lane
Capacity: 30,936
Manager: Neil Warnock
(68 months, W127, D79, L91)
PLAY-OFF candidates as always, and on
analysis suggests they are most likely to show up
well in the opening couple of months. That raises the possibility of trading in and out of
the Blades’ price if you fancy that sort of play,
but it’s hard to be confident about a
straightforward punt on an outfit that seems
incapable of taking the next step.
Neil Warnock has been fairly busy in the transfer
market yet again, though no-one really catches the
eye, and the season looks set to boil down to
whether United can convert more opportunities at
home this time round.
The Blades are nearly there. An extra home goal
or two and United could have made the Play- Offs but
make no mistake - they are a long way short of
challenging an automatic promotion spot.
We say: 9th 16-1
Sheffield Wednesday
Last year: 5th, League 1
Ground: Hillsborough
Capacity: 39,859
Manager: Paul Sturrock
OWLS fans had a hoot in the Play-Offs watching their
side swipe a seat in the Championship, but are in
for a rude awakening.
The free-scoring Yorkshiremen must raise their game
significantly to extend their stay in the second
tier.
Boss Paul Sturrock has spent what money he has
shoring up his defence -potentially to good effect
and is in as good a position as any to judge what
turns League 1 also-rans into a Championship outfit.
But Wednesday will be going toe-to-toe with hugely
experienced scrappers of proven Championship quality
in a region of the table where, last season, six
clubs were within four points of relegated Gillingham.
The 5-1 with Coral that Wednesday are relegated
looks interesting.
We say: 22nd 66-1
