Leeds Utd Last year: 14th
Ground: Elland Road
Capacity: 40,204
Manager: Kevin Blackwell
(14 months, W16, 018, L16)
LEEDS were widely tipped as a big-priced relegation
candidate last season, after their spectacular fail
from grace left them more or less starting from
scratch following relegation from the top flight.
Only Leicester drew more games and in the end, they
finished in mid-table although closer to the drop
zone than the Play-Offs.
Kevin Blackwell has been busy in the transfer market
- this time through choice rather than out of
necessity.
Robbie Blake is the most eye-catching of those who
have signed up for the new campaign after his goals
for Burney in the first half of last season earned
him a move to Birmingham.
His new side acquitted themselves fairly well in the
big games last term but lost to some of the minnows
-Gillingham, Brighton, Rotherham and Crewe.
We say: 10th 16-1
Leicester City
Last year: 15th
Ground: Walkers Stadium
Capacity: 32,500
Manager: Craig Levein
THE FOXES were widely tipped for promotion last term
at a best-priced 5-2 but delighted the bookies by
finishing 15th.
Things started badly when Micky Adams resigned just
four months into the season.
He was replaced by former Hearts boss Craig Levein
and they hit their stride towards the end of the
season. Following an FA Cup quarter-final defeat by
Blackburn, they were only beaten by the top two -
Sunderland and Wigan.
Significantly, top-scorer David Connolly got seven
of his 13 goals in those final 11 games - while
Leicester had the fifth-best defence in the
Championship, they also had one of the weakest
attacks. Only Stoke scored fewer and finished in the
top-half.
Levein has spent the summer remoulding his side, but
still needs a striker.
