FINISHING just two points away from League 1 at the
close of the last season, the Sky Blues can be
backed at 8-1 to be relegated this time round.Only Crewe shipped more goals and they conceded
almost 20 more than than they did in 2003/04 when
they were a mid-table side.
Micky Adams has raided his old club Leicester for
centre-back Matt Heath but still wants to bring more
defenders to the Ricoh Arena, a priority for a club
that only kept six clean sheets all season.
The good news is that nine of the ten players out of
contract have signed new contracts - Steve Staunton
was the exception - but a tough start with three
always could see them fall behind early.
An early trade with a view to laying off on the
exchanges might pay off.

Ground: Gresty Road
Capacity: 10,046
Manager: Dario Gradi
(266 months, W430, D275, L427)
AS SHORT as evens for the drop before the kick-off,
the Railwaymen may be odds-on by the end of August,
with promotion contenders Norwich, Southampton and
Sheffield United all among the early appointments
and with a potential six-pointer at Brighton thrown
in for good measure.
They’ve diced with death since winning promotion in
2003 and only escaped relegation on goal difference
last season.
For once, Dario Gradi has had a little cash to spend
and has used it to strengthen his forward line.
6ft 4in striker Pavel Suhaj has joined from
Slovakian outfit AS Trencia and he is joined up
front by Luke Rodgers from Shrewsbury.
Juan Ugarte has also switched to Gresty Road on a
free after 16 goals for Wrexham last season.
