What now for the Premiership Champions? Chelsea as
everyone knows have an unlimited supply of money and
definitely possess the best squad of players. It
remains to be seen what additional quality Andrei
Shevchenko and Michael Ballack can add to an already
star studded line up. The only problems it seems for
Jose Mourinho is keeping everyone happy. Where can
you play Michael Ballack when you have Frank Lampard
covering the same area of the field? Are there now
too many big personalties in the team? Take a look
at what happened with Real Madrid. It’s often a
recipe for disaster.
We all know about the transfer news at Chelsea,
however they come into this game on the back of a
2-1 loss to Liverpool in the Community Shield. In
fact, many of their players that day were very
disappointing. Michael Ballack and Frank Lampard to
name but a few.
Man City are not in the best of shape either,
with a sprinkling of budget signings, which includes
Sweden keeper Issaakson. However, their central
defender Sylvain Distin is on the verge of a move to
Middlesbrough, and their awful form towards the end
of last season has carried into pre season.
They haven't really impressed, losing 1-0 at home to
Porto.
From a betting perspective, I am expecting
Chelsea to win this game pretty comfortably, but at
odds of 2/9 there's no real value in that.
More value liies in the goals market. I have to say
Shevchenko looked superb last week against Liverpool
and I'm sure he can find the net. I like the 1.83
for Over 2.5 goals at Betfair. Man City's best
defender Sylvain Distin looks set to depart and this
is a huge blow before an away game at the Champions.
If you think of Robben, Drogba, Lampard, Ballack,
Wright Phillips...there are goals to be had.
I think it will be a tight first half, but I'm
sure Chelsea and romp away with it at the end. Get
