It would be easy to overreact to the Blues' defeat
at St James' Park, but
they have not being playing well in recent weeks
and, on top of their
current injury worries, this game could be coming at
the wrong time right
now. Chelsea will have been deflated after their Champions
League defeat in Barcelona midweek, and even they
might have trouble raising their game for this match.
Liverpool will be in great heart after their midweek
win over Leverkusen, and have the added benefit of
going into the game as underdogs.
Liverpool have an outstanding record at the Millennium
Stadium, having only
lost to Arsenal in the Charity Shield. They were
also underdogs two years
ago when they beat United, and look worth an
interest at 11/4 to lift the
first piece of silverware of the season. In a game
where goals may be at a
premium, a safer bet could be on our Asian Handicap
at 1.80 getting a half
goal start - you will still collect if the game is
draw. Let me say first that all I've seen of last
nights game was what they showed on SSN this
morning, ie the 'penalty' incident, the red card and
the goal.
I'm gonna buck the trend here cos I didn't think it
was a pen at all. Senderos had his back to Johnson
and AJ appeared to have lost control of the ball
then went over Senderos' leg. Not a foul in my
opinion.
Also, I believe football should be like rugby and
any backchat to a ref should be punished.
Unfortunately it's something thats endemic in the
game and you rarely see anyone carded for it. I'd
like to defend McFadden but I have to say if I used
the words 'to a ref I'd expect to be sent off or
yellow carded at least. He was unfounate though cos
it's something that rarely is punished by other
refs. i'm cannot believe moyes never made a change
last night , aj was alone all night and caused them
problems . osman was ineffective (the norm of late)
, why not push the lad forward , we were overrun
regardless with four in midfield at least we could
of kept a full back interested instead of allowing
them the width they could stretch us with. iif all
uses of the F word are to result in a sending off
then fine, we all know where we stand, however they
never result in a sending off, accusing Polll of
being a cheat is, but that does not appear to be the
case here, thus we were reduced to 10 men because of
a misunderstanding.
Having set up as a 4-4-2 clearly Moyes wasn't
planning to defend for a draw and pens but 10 men
against some very gifted players forces a rethink
brought about by an errant sending off.
he didn't feel ossie could do that then sub him for
victor. i' generally agree with moyes and his subs
but yesterday was defend and sneak a result . that
will always leave the taste of we should of had a go
imo, why not try for a goal and then defend it ?
however, all that said above is pointless as with 11
players on the pitch it wasn't as if we had the
upper hand , they were better imo and that side
would run most teams , how good were flamini , eboue
djourou ?
as regards to the ref , as soon as he'd done it (red
card) there was no way were we going to get the
result , we spent the rest of the game abusing him
ad not getting behind us , counterproductive imo
Let me finish by saying that Poll is not the best
ref around, there's a list of his mistakes in EFC
matches alone listed above but as far as I'm
concerned he was not the main reason for us losing
last night.
GOALSCORER CASHBACK OFFER
Steven Gerrard has made it plain that he intends to
leave the club unless
they can show the ambition and ability to win
trophies. Returning from
suspension for this game, it would be ironic if he
can score against the
club who look most likely to lure him away from
Anfield. Back him to score
first in the game at 8/1, and be safe in the
knowledge that should he fail
to do so, BET365 will refund your losing stake if
the player scores the last goal instead! CLAIM
