Things are looking up for Spurs fans coming into the
new season. Their manager Martin Jol exceeded all
expectations last season and is in the process of
developing an pretty potent squad. In defence they
have England stars Ledley King and Michael Dawson,
in midfield they have Jermaine Jenas and new Ivory
Coast star Didier Zokoro form St Etienne for £8.2m,
while up front they have captured £10m man,
Bulgarian international Demitar Berbatov to partner
Robbie Keane and Jermaine Defoe. King and Keane are
both out for the trip to Bolton however. They come
into this game full of confidence after 2-1 home win
over Spanish side Real Sociedad. Bolton battled
well last season to land a respectable finish, but
this year will see them without their inspirational
star Jay Jay Okocha, who was released on a free last
year. Also gone are Bruno N'Gotty in defence, while
there have been no significant transfers into the
club. Pre season wise, Bolton haven't really been in
the best of form. They have lost five out of their
six pre season friendlies. In their last game they
went down 1-3 at home to AZ Alkmaar. In front of
goal they are struggling with injuries, with Kevin
Davies, Abdoulaye Faye, Ricardo Gardner, Quinton
Fortune and Henrik Pedersen all out.
I'm expecting big things from Tottenham this
year, and I think Bolton are going to struggle.
Tottenham have splashed out nearly £20m in transfer
fees to add to their already impressive squad, and
with Berbatov up front, who has impressed up front
in pre season, they should have enough to outgun
Bolton today. Bolton are struggling with injuries
and poor pre season form, and odds of 6/4 with Paddy
Power should be snapped up.
