2000 Guineas
The 2004 Guineas meeting at Newmarket is set to have a
new look.
Having previously taken place over three days, this year's
meeting will now be a two-day fixture on 1 and 2 May.
The 2000 Guineas and the 1000 Guineas remain on Saturday
and Sunday respectively, with prize money expected to total
just over £1m.
The old Friday meeting will now take place as a new fixture
on Sunday 30 May.
The Guineas meeting will be sponsored by online poker website
UtimateBet.com, which takes over from Sagitta, the sponsor
for six years.
Sunday's card will now feature the Group Two Jockey Club
Stakes and the Dahlia Stakes.
The Saturday has benefited from the addition of the Listed
Newmarket Stakes, with the Group Three Victor Chandler Palace
House Stakes and the Ladbrokes Handicap remaining as two
supporting races.
An interesting little conditions event in which TUCKER,
who ran a fair race in the 2,000 Guineas last time, looked
to have been found a good opportunity to get back on the
winning trail. Well supported, he made hard work of it, but
lengthened nicely once they hit the rising ground and was
well on top at the finish. On this evidence he looks worth
trying over a bit further and the Hampton Court Stakes at
Royal Ascot at York might be a suitable target, but
connections have the race formerly known as the Heron
Stakes, to be run at Goodwood this year a week today, in
mind for him. 3 good things there ,all 3 great chance- yes
fire and rain would of won me 10000 if won our derby ,get
your betting money for ascot today - me easterby as got mini
mouse back on its mark, avoiding flat tracks and g/f but
today its got these - and we know how he likes getting them
ready for york - blue spin.
Evening Interested Academic Researcher (hmmm something
like that anyway). I would say it was a bad race by listed
standards. You could argue that Baltic King franked the form
earlier this week when behind Takeover Target. (I think BK
might find this a race too much).
A head victory over a decent handicapper Presto Shrinko is
nothing to get too excited about I agree but at the same
time One Putra is definitely improving and how good are the
horses in this race?
More positives are that it likes to race up with the pace or
lead so it will avoid congestion problems and that it seems
very game and gritty under pressure. A reproduction of its
last run would surely see it reach a place.
