Pick:West Brom @ 13/2 e/w - West Ham are way to short to back
at 7/2. I like the looks of West Brom, who are veterans of
the 1st Division and they know what it takes to get promotion.Gary
Megson has kept the core of the team, and I think they will
be difficult to beat. At 13/2 they offer some value. **Christmas
update 29/12/2003 West Brom currently 2nd!
I reckon Argentina. We'd stand the
best chance of winning then, because we could rely on the
fact that only Brazil has ever won a WC in Europe (1958 i
think)
Germans at home would be very tough, and although i think
the Germans are the least experienced squad out there in the
quarters, they are easily the strongest and fittest
physically, as well as being big blokes.
Italy are real old pro's at this level, they know every
trick in the book and England with its honest stand up guys
would be made to suffer.
And even little old Ukraine i would rather not have to deal
with. Remember Greece 2004.
So its the Argies for me. Plus of course i would love to see
Maradonas face if we beat them.
And of course Teddy Sheringhams. Apparently he hates the
Argies. Thinks they're cheating little twerps. Traditions
are to be broken. France had not won an WC before 1998. But
it won it then. I mean, maybe Argentina wins its first WC
outside South America this year. Or Portugal win its first
WC ever. Or France or England win their first WC away from
home. Or Ukraine win the first ever WC for a former Soviet
republic. Or Germany become the first even country to win
twice at home. Or Germany-Brazil meet in the final making it
the first final played two WCs in a row. Or Argentina-Brazil
meet in the final, making it the first final ever in Europe
with no European team. I mean Greece won Euro 2004 and that
was more extreme than any of the above scenarios.
Ukraine - For
obvious reasons, they are by far the poorest team left in
the competition.
Italy - Not impressed me one little bit, for this reason I
think that Ukraine might actually stand a chance against
them. I'd love to face them in the final.
Germany - The all out attack because we have home support
theory works only so far. Let's wait and see what happens if
they try that against a good team like Argentina.
Argentina - The most impressive of all teams in the
tournament so far. I don't care about all the statistics
about South American teams in Europe. If they get to the
final then they will be tough opposition against whoever
they play
